Corfu’s recorded history began in the 6th century BC just south of the modern town, and many remains from this period and later ones still exist. On this easy walking tour of the Paleopolis (‘Old Town’) neighbourhood, you will visit temple sites from Ancient Greece, Roman excavations and religious buildings from the medieval Byzantine era. In addition, you can enjoy a stroll along the footpaths and trails of Corfu’s biggest and best public park, and even take a swim off its shore. Don’t miss a tour of the Mon Repos Museum, once a royal villa where Prince Philip was born, to understand the context of the Old Town’s relics and how they relate to the current settlement. Before or after this tour, we highly recommend a visit to Corfu Town’s excellent Archaeological Museum, located ten minutes walk from the start of the tour. With well-labelled displays and some interactive features, it provides lots of additional information about the sites you will visit. Start the tour at the traffic lights on Garitsa Bay. Park roadside, or walk from the town centre.
