For centuries, thousands of Jews led a peaceful and prosperous life in a safe neighbourhood of Corfu Town. That all changed on 8 June 1944, the morning the island's Jews were rounded up and sent to the death camps. This Holocaust was, by percentage of population, at least as bad as any in Europe under the Nazis.
Though Jewish residents are now in a tiny minority, their old neighbourhood still exists as a distinct community, still with its own characteristics.
This walking tour takes you to six locations in and around the Quarter, in each of which you can relive a chapter in the history of Corfu’s Jews and their tragic Holocaust, tempered with some optimism for the future.
With this app-based self-guided audio tour around Corfu’s Jewish Community, you will enjoy unlimited independent sightseeing of the historic area, its narrow streets and hidden treasures.
There's no need to meet up with a member of staff, simply download our app and start your experience straight away once at the dedicated starting point.
